Devs for Devs: What I Learned Building and Shipping My First Two iOS Apps

A great way to grow is by learning from another one's experience. A thing that resonates a lot with me: building an app yourself teaches you things a course can't. Practical experience makes a difference.

Supporting Differentiate Without Color in SwiftUI

Differentiate without Color is an important part of your app's accessibility support. Natascha Fadeeva explains what it is, and how you can add support for it in your apps. Combining it with Accessibility Audits done by your agent makes it a perfect match.

WHAT I'M WORKING ON

Post-launch marketing of apps

With agents writing more of our code, meta skills become more important. How to market your app? Will paid acquisition be something worth exploring?

I'm personally great at building and shipping apps, and yes, I've also built an audience. But I also must be honest: I could do so much better at marketing.

I'm currently running Apple Search Ads for the first time, also because I never had a high-potential iOS app before. Marketing for developer tools was mostly easy, as I already run this newsletter and blog.

One thing that does stand out to me is working together with fellow indie creators. It's like working together with influencers in the scene of your app. Last week, I joined Florian Schweizer (Flo writes Code) to launch a video together about RocketTrace. It's a great video to watch for you as a developer, as it explains why it's important to use Xcode Instruments and what details matter:

To me, it's an example of marketing collaboration. Your audience compounds with the other's. Florian benefits from my reach, I benefit from his. This also works for other nieces. Maybe you can promote a music artist in your app, while they promote your app on Instagram in return?

Anyone can build, AI can do marketing but it's sloppy. If you manage to get reach, you'll be way more successful.
